Party: Gayle and Barney Semtner entertained at a backyard barbecue dinner honoring their son-in-law and author, Daniel Vaughn, and daughter, Jennifer Vaughn, of Dallas. Vaughn has written a book titled “The Prophets of Smoked Meats — A Journey Through Texas Barbecue.” The book, which tells how to identify good barbecue and has recipes for meat rubs, was launched in New York City with chef, author and television personality Anthony Bourdain. A question-and-answer session was held at Barnes and Noble.

At dinner: In keeping with the barbecue theme, the Semtners featured a huge array of barbecued chicken, turkey, brisket and jalapeno sausage, along with coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, brownies, lemon squares and cookies. Jamie Bramble played the guitar during dinner. Bouquets of roses, daisy mums and peonies were on tables inside and outside the house.

Success story: Vaughn autographed books for guests.

Seen: Among the guests were Elizabeth and John Semtner, Zach Semtner, Jeffrey Semtner, Jean and Larry Lucas, Betty and Larry Edwards, Alison Taylor, Jeary and Mike Seikel, Patricia and Greg Burns, Nora Medley, Don Brannan, Beth and Carl Shortt, Sarah and Rick Vermillion, Jane and Sandy Elliott, Sody and Robert Clements, Kris Frankfurt, Susie Nelson, Seyan and John Hefner and Linda and Ken Howell.

Birthday luncheon: Bette MacKellar celebrated her birthday with a summer luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. Hostesses were Janie Axton, Barbara Beeler, Sue Goodman and Jayne Henline.

Tables: Cloths were mint green, and napkins were pink. Bouquets of pink roses and peonies decorated the tables.

Dessert: The entire lunch was tasty, but the dessert, a chocolate mousse ball, was birthday worthy!

Guests: Party-goers included Linda Howell, Kathy Griffin, Dana Russell, Bebe MacKellar, Mary Jo Tatum, Janice Cockreham, Janie Cull, Terry Curtis, Linda Rodgers, Patty Cohenour, Jane Austin, Sally Bentley, Becky Buchanan, Patti Marshall, Karen Ingram, Sharon McLeod, Marky Crosby, Luann Hulsey and Ginger Parker.

Wrap party: Director Kyle Roberts welcomed dozens of people involved with the production of his film “The Posthuman Project” to a wrap party at the Paramount, 701 W Sheridan. Roberts, a NewsOK videographer, shot “The Posthuman Project” in locations around the state. The Oklahoman's Features Editor Matthew Price and Los Angeles-based comics writer Sterling Gates, originally of Tulsa, wrote the script.

The buzz: The film and web series is a story about teenagers who developed super powers on a rock-climbing trip.

Program: Roberts presented awards to cast and crew members and then showed the trailer. It was followed by a scene cut from the film.

Event: Ellen Schlachter and Bill Jackson were honorees at a couple's wedding shower in the home of Janie and Jon Axton. The engaged couple will be married in August in Dallas. Co-hosts were the Axtons, Bev and Paul Kanaly, Laura and Bob Gary, Gina and Jerry Ellis, Patti and Rick Ruffin, Donna and Bill Bozalis and Sara and Rob Northwood.
