Party: Gayle and Barney Semtner entertained at a backyard barbecue dinner honoring their son-in-law and author, Daniel Vaughn, and daughter, Jennifer Vaughn, of Dallas. Vaughn has written a book titled “The Prophets of Smoked Meats — A Journey Through Texas Barbecue.” The book, which tells how to identify good barbecue and has recipes for meat rubs, was launched in New York City with chef, author and television personality Anthony Bourdain. A question-and-answer session was held at Barnes and Noble.
At dinner: In keeping with the barbecue theme, the Semtners featured a huge array of barbecued chicken, turkey, brisket and jalapeno sausage, along with coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, brownies, lemon squares and cookies. Jamie Bramble played the guitar during dinner. Bouquets of roses, daisy mums and peonies were on tables inside and outside the house.
Success story: Vaughn autographed books for guests.
