HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID
Birthday party: Bev Carter was hostess for a party at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club honoring her husband, David, as he celebrated his 75th birthday. Buck Gaucher played the guitar and sang country Western songs.
Special decorations: The grandchildren, David, Cate and Lizzie Carter, created a 16-foot banner for the table, which read “Happy Birthday Poppy.” A huge bouquet of orchids and bird of paradise flowers decorated the food table and individual tables had centerpieces of green and white hydrangeas with green berries.
Menu: There were mini-hot dogs, hamburger and cheeseburger sliders, shrimp in shot glasses, and mini strawberry, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, along with dessert bars, brownies and cookies.
Seen: Barbara Watson, Barbara Mee, Beth and Chuck Morrison, Patty and Roland Tague, Judy and Bill Phillips, Patti and Dick Marshall, Janie and Bill Deupree. Jamie and Gil Gaddis, Bette Jo and Frank Hill, Ruthie and O.B. Partying on: Bev and David Carter left the next day for a visit to Shreveport, La., to see their other son and family, Chris Carter, Susan Campbell and their children, Isabel and Colin Carter.
NORMAN LEADERSHIP AWARD
Annual banquet: Chris Purcell, vice president for the University of Oklahoma Governance Board of Regents and executive secretary, was the recipient of the 2014 Women's Leadership Award from the Norman Chamber of Commerce. She was recognized at a banquet in the Embassy Suites Hotel & Convention Center in Norman.
Award criteria: The award is for female leaders who excel in their chosen field, devote time and energy to Norman in a meaningful way and actively inspire other women to achieve their full potential.
Past recipients: The honor, previously known as the Athena Award, has been given in the past to Molly Shi Boren, Nancy O'Brian, Cindy Merrick, Sherri Coale and Jaci Williams.
Other news: Chris was also recognized at the Norman Campus Staff Senate Awards Ceremony for 40 years of service to OU. On the stage were President David L. Boren, Board of Regents Chairman Tom Clark, Tulsa, and Regent Max Weitzenhoffer, Norman. This ceremony also included recognition of OU staff retirees, staff anniversaries and an awards presentation.
Event: Sandy and Stewart Meyers were hosts for a reception in their home. Guests included cast members from “South Pacific" performed by the Oklahoma City University Performers for the Meyers Theater for Young Audiences, which included students in grades 1-5 from Oklahoma City area schools.
Program: OCU President Robert Henry and Stewart Meyers gave remarks. OCU students gave performances.
Table: Palms and tropical flowers decorated the buffet table.
Guests: At the party were community leaders, supporters of the arts and the cast, including Barbara and Ralph Thompson, Lil and Bill Ross, Libby and G.T. BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Occasion: Neighbors in Lakehurst Addition had a picnic with a barbecue dinner prepared by neighbor CR Head of Head Country BBQ. The party was at the home of Kacky and Michael Shelley and 120 people attended, welcomed new neighbors and signed up for neighborhood patrol.
Young neighbors:The 40 children enjoyed a bounce house and the Shelley’s street was blocked off so the children could play.
Dinner: Barbecued ribs, brisket, baked beans and potato salad.

Event: On Earth Day members of Council Grove Chapter National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution participated in the Oklahoma City Beautiful Litter Blitz. Chapter members collected litter along East Overholser Drive at the historic Council Grove Site.
TOWN HALL LECTURE LUNCHEON
Luncheon: A luncheon followed Stephen Moore's talk at the Oklahoma City Town Hall Lecture Series. Both events were at St. Luke's Methodist Church. The speaker is with the Heritage Foundation, a former senior economics writer for The Wall Street Journal, a member of the editorial board for CNBC and Fox News. He spoke on “American's Economic Outlook: The Return to Prosperity.” This was Town Hall's 81st season. Carol Kaspereit is Town Hall president.
At lunch: Among the guests were Jeanne and Sam Cole, David Brown, John Hanes, Sara and Olen Treadway, Alan Webb, Sue and John Francis, Karen and John Gray, Don Kaspereit, Marie and Earl Miller, Jan and Richard Smith, Jeanette and John Willet, Ann Armbruster, Georgianna Wiesner and Judith Steelman.
