CAUSE TO CELEBRATE

Event: Bob Funk Sr. was host for the Express Ranches “Big Event” held at the Express Ranch in Yukon. Funk is chairman and CEO of Express Employment Professionals and owner of Express Ranches. The 1,200 people who attended the gala were treated to a private concert by Randy Owen, lead singer of the band Alabama. George Nigh was co-host.

Purpose: The event is an annual thank-you party for Express Ranches' customers and marks the beginning of the annual cattle sales.

Other entertainment: Two sky jumpers displayed 12 foot-flags, one with the ranch logo and the other an American flag. Twenty active servicemen and women from Tinker Air Force Base unveiled another 76-foot by 50-foot American flag.

Honored guests: At the party were Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon, Ret. Lt. Gen. Tom Stafford and other active military members, Oklahoma Wounded Warrior members and invited recent weather challenged victims.

Menu: Chef Ralph Knighton prepared New York strip steaks and a large display of shrimp on ice carvings.

Speakers: Nigh, Funk, Shannon and Jarold Callahan.

THIS JUST IN

Special event: Ann and Burns Hargis were hosts at a special dedication ceremony at the Doel Reed Center for the Arts, Taos, N.M. The celebration and memorial ceremony honored the late Martha Reed, Jim Vallion, Ann and David Sutherland, Linda and Jim Parker, Lerri and Rick Cooper and other donors to the project. The center houses Oklahoma State University's Art Program in Taos, which is another location for interdisciplinary teaching and research, much (though not all) of which will focus on the arts. It will benefit OSU students, faculty, alumni and friends in New Mexico. It offers credit courses and life-long learner courses as well as seminars.

Venues: “Casa Sutherland,” the adobe home serving as the Center of the DRCA, and “Vallion Gathering Place,” a covered courtyard area, were dedicated during the evening. The center is the first of three buildings to be renovated. There will be small gatherings, seminars, talks and alumni events at Casa Sutherland. The second adobe home will be named “Casa Cooper,” and “Doel Reed's Studio,” which will not be renamed, will honor the Parkers' contributions.

On the program: Edward Walkiewicz, director of the Doel Reed Center for the Arts, gave the welcome and Albert Archuleta from the Taos Pueblo gave the blessing of the property. Kent Young, longtime Reed family friend, gave a memorial talk about Martha Reed. OSU President Burns Hargis gave the dedication and introduced the special honorees.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS

Holiday shower: Macy Beeler and Matt Smith who will be married in December were honored at a “Holiday Magic” shower and dinner in the home of Susan and Eric Eckman. Co-hosts were Alison and Scott Calhoon, Donna and Len Cason, Janet and Jim Jones, Kim and Mike Joseph, and Barbara and Bill Miller. They gave the engaged couple place settings of their Christmas china.

Christmas decorations: A silver tinsel Christmas tree with lime green and pink ornaments was set up, and the shower gifts were placed under the tree. Table decor included two silver deer with a hot pink tinsel wreath shaped like a heart and lime green striped tablecloths. White twinkle lights decorated the backyard fence and trees. For dessert Christmas cookies were served.
