EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP GALA
Gala: Leadership Oklahoma members honored four state leaders at the annual Excellence in Leadership Gala at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. Award winners were former Gov. George Nigh, Lifetime Achievement Award; Stan Clark, Distinguished Graduate Award; The First National Bank and Trust Co. of Miami, Business Leadership Award, and The Chickasaw Nation, Statewide Community Award. About 300 members and guests attended the gala.
Chairmen: Co-chairmen of the event were Mary Blankenship Pointer and Jim Robertson. Ann Ackerman is Chief Executive Officer of Leadership Oklahoma.
Decorations: The room featured gold lights and on the tables were crystal candelabra and globes to go with the gold and crystal chargers.
Music: Live music featured Amarillo Junction.
Special touch: The music of “Oklahoma!” was played as former Gov. Nigh accepted his award.
Party: Eight hostesses honored Elaine Reneau Anderson at a baby shower in the home of Susan Edwards. Co-hostesses were Ann Fleming, Cathy Cross, Janie Cook, Marilyn Henley, Susie Gray, Susan Muehleisen and Debbie McCord. The baby girl, to be named Carter Grace Anderson, is due in April.
Flowers/food: The centerpiece was composed of vases filled with red roses, pink stock and red heart votives. Included on the menu were monogrammed cupcakes, cheese spread in a heart-shaped dish, salmon and chicken nuggets, corn salsa and various dips. Dessert was chocolate-dipped strawberries.
Guests: Among the partygoers were Gayla Stapleton, Linda Klos, Janie Law, Bev Kanaly, Jane Webb, Lucinda Huffman, Nancy Ellis, Kathy Brown, Kirk Hammons, Judy Savage and Betsy Thorpe.

Reception: A reception and book signing was held at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum, celebrating the release of “Love's: Fifty Years of a Family Enterprise,” by Bob Blackburn. The evening honored Tom and Judy Love and was hosted by Nancy and Bob Ellis, Jane and Gerald Gamble, Kirk and Royce Hammons, Ann and Bill Johnstone, and Brenda and Tom McDaniel. Blackburn gave the program and the Oklahoma City University Surrey Singers performed a special arrangement of the national anthem and a medley from the musical “Oklahoma!”
Decorations: Bouquets of red and yellow tulips were, book cover colors, were on the tables.

Occasion: Cindi and Mike Shelby and members of The Societies of Oklahoma City University were hosts for a reception at RMeyers dress shop in Nichols Hill Plaza for 2014 Awards of Excellence honorees. They are Marion Paden, Linda Whittington, Anne Gray and Jenee Lister. Previous award winners also attended.

Main event: The dinner and awards program will be Thursday at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. Annie Bohanon and Jane Thompson are co-chairmen and Cathy Leichter is president of the organization.
Event: The Association of Women in Communications Byliner Award winners were honored at an Afternoon Tea hosted by Gov. Mary Fallin at the Phillips Pavilion at the Governor's Mansion. Award recipients from the past 55 years were also invited. The awards dinner will be March 13 at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel.
2014 honorees: This year's seven award winners are Sarah Sears, Amanda Taylor, Karen Wicker, Mary Blankenship Pointer, Leslie Batchelor, Deby Snodgrass and Kathy Williams.
Menu: Quiche, fruit, vegetables and mini-cupcakes were served along with mimosas. Silver vases held flower bouquets of red carnations, Gerber daisies and roses.
Speakers: The honorees were introduced, along with the hostess, by Gov. Fallin.

Reception: A reception was held at the Oklahoma History Center exhibit “Power to Grow: The History of Oil and Gas in Oklahoma Since World War II.”
Guests: Among the people attending were legislators, donors and people from the oil and gas industry. Also there was Bob Blackburn, director of the Historical Society; Dan Provo, director of the History Center, and David Davis and Bruce Fisher, exhibit planners.
