FRIENDS CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS
Occasion: A group of friends who have birthdays in April celebrated together with a party in the home of Marilyn Meade.
Party planners: Hostesses were Meade, Pat Edwards, Barbara Kerrick, Shirley Kirschner, D'Arline McCubbin and Linda Rodgers. They wore necklaces stating “Another Year of Fabulous.”
Cake: The birthday cake was vanilla with lemon and strawberry layers and it was decorated with frosted flowers. Fresh flowers surrounded the cake.
Meeting/greeting: Harolyn Enis, Polly Keenan, Lu Hoenig, Marty Margo, Pam Newby, Judy Savage, Seyan Hefner, Sue Simmons, Betty Replogle, Ann Fleming, Claire Thompson, Winnie Porterfield, Debbie McQueen, Linda Wegener and Thalia Eddleman.
CINCO DE MAYO PARTY
Fiesta: Christina and Kio Nihira were hosts for a Cinco de Mayo party. They invited friends for “margarita, fajitas and fun.”
El menu: Ted's Restaurant catered fajitas, plus margaritas and Mexican beer. Cake, cupcakes and cookies were among the desserts.
La flores: Festive flower arrangements included bouquets of daisies, carnations and asters. Tablecloths were red, turquoise, lime green and orange and tables were set in the back garden.
Personas: Toni and David Cook, Rene and Bill Vassar, Joni and Mike Stice, Diane and Martin van der Laan, Susan and Hank Binkowski, Carey Sue and Ricardo Vega, Dina Hammam.
Alumnae clubs: Members of the Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae met in the home of Casey Williams for a joint meeting. They brought children's books for various community organizations as the two groups share a focus on literacy as a national philanthropy.
Hostesses: Hostesses were Williams, Susan Drake, Kathy Brown, Whitney Moss and Katie Treadwell, Kappa members. This is an annual event and the groups trade hostess duties.
Details: There were Pi Phi arrow cookies and Kappa key cookies for the guests. Napkins and cups had the logo of “Monmouth Duo” since both groups were founded in Monmouth, Ill.
Luncheon: A group of former Girl Scouts had a 50-year reunion fiesta at Redlands Community College in El Reno. They were members of a troop from the Brownie Level until 1965 when they were Senior Scouts. Among their activities was a trip to Mexico. The late Almarian Hollingsworth was the Girl Scout Leader and they recognized her with a special tribute at the luncheon.
Other activities: Sandra Graves was hostess for a party in her home. Guests had “hobo stew,” reminiscent of their first Brownie cookout. The next day they went to Red Rock Canyon where they built a fire using only three matches like they learned in their Girl Scout activities and cooked hot dogs and s'mores and sang Girl Scout songs.
MEET THE DEAN
Luncheon: Linda Rodgers and Sally Bentley were hostesses for a luncheon honoring Gregg Garn, the new dean of the University of Oklahoma's Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education.
Speakers: Garn spoke about the college and answered questions from the guests.
Event: Members of the MacDowell Club enjoyed music by their scholarship winners at the May meeting.
Winners: Scholarship winners included Haley Johnson, vocalist; Jacob Fernandez, bassoon, Jordan Satterlee, vibraphone and oboe and Raven Cornman, viola.
