AIM HIGH

Luncheon: Members of the Annie Oakley Society and guests met at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum for a luncheon and to honor Nadia Comaneci with the Annie Oakley Society Award.

Society's mission: “To honor and raise awareness of outstanding women in all walks of life who exemplify the character, perseverance and moral fiber in the tradition of Annie Oakley.”

A word from the honoree: Nadia, a former Olympic gold medalist gymnast who earned the first perfect 10 ever, international philanthropist, and first athlete to win this award, noted in her remarks, “I finally found the bull's eye of success in pursuing my passion. Annie Oakley defied the norms of the day and followed her passion” and “My life story is a lot like hers (Annie Oakley). No one knew her life was about to make history.”

Code of the West: Cathy Keating and Lynn Friess, society chairman and co-chairman, gave a tip of the cowboy hat to their luncheon sponsors. Luncheon Chairman Judy J. Hatfield presented Nadia with her award. The printed program ended with “Until Next Year ... Aim High.” The consensus of the program speakers was that “we must continue the code of the West in the hearts of young people.” Entertainment was by young dancers from Oklahoma City University's Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management.

Latest buzz: Chuck Schroeder gave the crowd an enthusiastic update about the museum's master plan.

The scene: Burlap cloths and hot pink chargers and napkins tied with a strand of pearls were on the tables. Centerpieces were tall silver vases filled with roses, peonies and tulips. At each end of the room was a sagebrush bush tree with ribbons holding flowers, flower vases with peonies, tulips, anemones and bows.

Takeaway treats: Western bandana-style handkerchiefs were given to the guests.

Seen: Bart Conner, LaDonna Meinders, Tricia Everest, Jo Carol Cameron, Judy Love, Terri Cooper, Kris Frankfurt, Sally Starling, Polly Nichols, Karen Browne, Barbara Brou, Lela Sullivan, Susan Hoffman, Sue Ann Hyde, Barbara Durrett, Brenda McDaniel, Michael Meyers and Jo Rowan were at the event.

BRING A BOOK/BEST WISHES

Occasion: Martha Burger honored Lisa Putt at a brunch. The honoree recently retired from the Willis Group, a local consulting firm.

Gifts: Guests brought books and best wishes for Lisa.

Menu: The hostess served fruit, egg casserole, quiche, cinnamon rolls and cookies.

Party-goers: Melissa Cory, Meg Salyer, Lisa Boevers, Kathy Haney, Kelly Dyer Fry, Linda Kissler, Debby Hampton, Barb Crandall and Barb Denny.

FOR THE WOMEN

Event: While the men were playing golf in the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club 2013 Boomerang Member-Guest Tournament, the women had a Friday luncheon in the home of Leigh Ann and Paul Albers.

Other events: For 100 club members and 100 guests, there was a party on the golf plaza, a Thursday pool party with a beach ball theme, the Friday luncheon featuring a cooking class with pastry chef Toni Gullet and the Saturday event featured an all-black-and-silver theme with the Jam Wows Band.

POOL PARTY

Party: The Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club pool party during the Boomerang Member-Guest Tournament featured a beach ball theme.
