Who/what/where: Juliana Samara was honored at a luncheon and kitchen/recipe shower at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club. Hostesses were Juliana's grandmother, Adeeba Samara, and aunts Lillian Badeen, Nadia Shadid, Dianna Kaish, Carolyn Hamra and Andrea Jones.
Why: The bride-to-be and Spencer Simon plan to be married in February.
How: Guests were greeted with champagne and white wine. The menu was butternut squash soup, grilled chicken served over mixed baby greens salad and molten chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. Cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, pots and pans, and monogrammed aprons were among the gifts. The hostesses gave her a mixer. Her aunts shared some of their favorite recipes, including Best Ever Chocolate fudge, Feta Cheese Salad, Crispy Sugar Cookies, Company Rice and Champagne Punch. Mother Leslie Samara gave a “recipe for a happy marriage,” including ingredients of “love, loyalty, faith, kindness and laughter, and to bake these with sunshine to be served daily!” Pictures from Juliana's life were displayed, and each guest received a tea towel with “showered with love” messages written on them.
Event: The opening reception for Artspace at Untitled Art Gallery's “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: The Art of Social Commentary” was held at the Gallery. The exhibit will be up until Feb. 15.
The exhibit: The opening gave attendees a chance to see the installation artist, Bryce Brimer, and one of the historical print artists, Michelle Martin, Tulsa. The exhibit was inspired by social issues of the past, present and future.
Seen: About 100 people attended the opening, including Bryce Brimer, Michelle Martin, Derek Smalling, Ann Sherman, Sarah and Brian Hearn, Mary and John Seward and Chris Salyer.
