A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Dinner: In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Jan and Richard Smith were honored at a dinner by their three sons and daughters-in-law. Hosts were Melissa and Preston Smith, Aubri and Spencer Smith and Casey and Martin Smith.
The buzz: A gold and white theme was used with gold overlay tablecloths, white china, gold chargers and gold-rimmed wine glasses. White hydrangeas, peonies and calla lilies were the centerpieces. Different stages of their lives together were represented by displays of Richard's original M.D. bag and brain model, ostrich eggs, a glider airplane, teatime with the grandchildren, motorcycle, Czech cut-glass perfume bottle collection, violin, banjo and oil paintings.
Video: A running video of pictures from 50 years was shown to the 180 guests.
Music: Kyle Dillingham played the fiddle for the couple and then his band, Horseshoe Road, played the rest of the evening.
Testimony: After toasts and introductions, Jan and Richard spoke of the secret to their marriage: “A marriage united and built around God's love, open honest communication, holding hands, saying I love you and being kind to each other.”

HONORING YVONNE KAUGER
Dedication/reception: Bobbie Burbridge Lane donated a life-sized marble statue of the biblical “Ruth” by R. Romanelli Fiernze, 1911, to Oklahoma City University. It was from the Burbridge Foundation's Collection of Art and the plaque read, “In honor of Mrs. Lane's best friend/sister of 50 years, Justice Yvonne Kauger.” “I am giving the art to OCU to honor people for their help, strength, courage, influence, teaching ... but mainly unconditional love, which has made it possible for me to do in my life what I feel God has asked me to do.” Lane honored Kauger because of her help with projects such as Lane's work with families and divorce, drugs, pornography and feeding and re-energizing seniors with the Senior Follies and Mobile Meals. “I am as sure as I possibly can be that, the unconditional love and the strength of her standing by my side, has been paramount all these years of accomplishing my projects. She put a steel shaft up my back when I needed it,” Lane said. Sixty friends gathered to hear about the honor. Mike Anderson gave the history of Ruth.
