There's no question: The co-star of the feature film "Hellboy II: The Golden Army” would fit in at any posh event in this town.
The look is a long way from her wardrobe for her new NBC series "Kath and Kim,” set to debut in October. She plays the Kim part of the duo in the series based on an Australian program of the same name.
"It is kind of a sophisticated show for a show about some common people. We think we are fabulous. We are not. I think of myself as a trophy wife. My husband works at the Best Buy,” Blair says. "I wear rhinestones on my nails. This is new thing for me because I have to wear these nails in real life. So I am always apologizing for them. Then I realize I am apologizing to people who have these nails.
"So I am insulting people every day.”
As for her fashion sense as Kim, Blair says the clothes she wears on the TV series are "very tight.”
Blair's co-star, Molly Shannon, plays Kath, Kim's mother in a dysfunctional relationship. Blair smiles as she talks about how the mathematics of that pairing doesn't really add up. Blair is 36. Shannon is 43. It helps that Blair doesn't look a day older than 21.
Now that her work on the "Hellboy” sequel, set to open today, is done, Blair will concentrate on the new TV comedy. This is her first starring role in a network series since 1999, when she was on the short-lived Fox series "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane.”
She's been busy with feature films, including the two "Hellboy” movies. Blair reprises her role as Liz, a fire-throwing member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development team on which Hellboy (Ron Perlman) is the muscle.
It has been four years between the first and second "Hellboy” movies. Blair has been able to keep up with the character by providing the voice for two animated "Hellboy” movies, available on DVD, and the videogame.
