ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (AP) — Henderson State University football coach Scott Maxfield has announced the hiring of Jeff McInerney as an assistant coach.

Maxfield announced the hiring Friday and says McInerney will be the Reddies defensive line coach.

McInerney comes to Henderson after spending eight years as the head football coach at Central Connecticut State University where his teams went 48-41 and won two Northeast Conference titles.

McInerney has previously been defensive coordinator at the University of Rhode Island and worked as an assistant coach at Tulsa, UNLV, Oregon State, Georgia Southern and Southern California.
