Kirk Herbstreit, one of college football’s busiest analysts, is having an easier time this season thanks to his ABC/ESPN bosses.

Unlike last season, when he made several long plane trips on Saturday, Herbstreit usually has been assigned to broadcast the game from which ESPN’s College GameDay (9-11 a.m. Saturday) is based.

Such will be the case Saturday for the Bedlam game, when he will have a short walk to the broadcast booth at Boone Pickens Stadium from the GameDay site on the library lawn southwest of the stadium.

Herbstreit is joined on GameDay by host Chris Fowler and analysts Lee Corso and Desmond Howard.

Last season, Herbstreit made two cross country flights on a chartered plane from the GameDay site to the site of his ABC prime-time telecast. He flew from Blacksburg, Va., to Berkeley, Calif., and from Eugene, Ore., to Boston.

This fall his longest trip has been from Auburn, Ala., to Tempe, Ariz. He also flew from Baton Rouge, La., to Lubbock, Texas, to call the OSU-Texas Tech game.

Next week, he most likely will fly from Atlanta, site of the SEC championship, where GameDay is expected to originate, to Kansas City, Mo., to broadcast the Big 12 Championship.
