Heritage Hall junior running back Barry J. Sanders will not play the rest of this season, said coach Andy Bogert on Saturday.

Sanders suffered a foot injury on a touchdown run in a win against Newcastle in Week 6. He missed the next five games before returning last week against Bridge Creek.

The emotional lift was huge, but he wasn't effective on the field. He came in averaging 11 yards per rush and only compiled 34 yards on 15 carries, though he did have a receiving touchdown.

“He wanted to play, but yeah, it's official at this point that he won't be out there,” Bogert said.

The Chargers play Bethany in a Class 3A semifinal next Saturday night at Putnam City Stadium.

Heritage Hall (13-0) beat the Bronchos in Week 9 at Bethany without Sanders.
