High school athletes of the week: Carl Albert's Gavin LaValley, Duncan's Brittany Toone among week's stars

Gavin LaValley had a trio of big games last week, starting by going 4 for 4 with a pair of home runs, two doubles and five RBIs in a 19-8 win over the OKC Broncos on Thursday.

Gavin LaValley, Carl Albert

The junior had a trio of big games last week, starting by going 4 for 4 with a pair of home runs, two doubles and five RBIs in a 19-8 win over the OKC Broncos on Thursday. Two days later, he was 3 for 3 with a home run and a pair of doubles and a save in an 11-1 win over Guthrie. Then Monday, LaValley was 3 for 4 with a double, triple, home run and four RBIs at the plate and struck out nine in six innings in a 13-3 win over Ardmore.

Boys golf

Drew Ison, Edmond Santa Fe

Ison earned his first career victory in the Putnam City North Invitational at Quail Creek, just days after taking third at Enid to help Santa Fe win both events. In fact, the Wolves had the top three finishers at both tournaments.

 

Girls golf

Alexis Sadeghy, Bishop McGuinness

Sadeghy continued a strong season by shooting 75 in gusting winds Monday to win the Class 5A state preview at Dornick Hills in Ardmore. Only one other player in the field broke 80, with Deer Creek's Hailey Hill carding a 79.

 

Boys Soccer

Mauro Cichero, Norman North

The junior midfielder scored two goals in Norman North's 4-0 victory over U.S. Grant on Monday night and had four goals in the Timberwolves 6-2 win over Lawton on Tuesday night.

 

Girls Soccer

Courtney Dike, Edmond North
