High school athletes of the week: Destiny Christian's Colton Hamel, Norman North's Mauro Cichero among week's best

The senior shortstop had a banner day Tuesday, hitting for the cycle and helping the Wildcats complete a two-game sweep of Classen SAS at Dolese Park. There was some excitement with the cycle, too.

Hamel capped it with a game-winning grand slam in the seventh inning, breaking an 8-all tie. He finished with five RBIs that game and finished with 10 in the two games. He is now hitting .500 on the season.

Boys Soccer

Mauro Cichero, Norman North

Already heralded as perhaps the state’s best soccer player, Cichero showed off his skill in impressive fashion Tuesday night, scoring the game-winning goal with a bicycle kick in overtime. Video of the goal by the Oklahoma High School Sports Express was beginning to gain attention from national media outlets Wednesday.

Girls soccer

Katelyn Williams, Moore

In the team’s homecoming game last week, the senior scored three of Moore’s four goals in a shutout victory over Choctaw. And Williams did it while playing three different positions — defender, center forward and attacking midfielder.

Boys track

Lance Frost, Mustang

The distance runner won both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Choctaw Yellowjacket Invitational last Friday. He clocked a winning time of 4:44.68 in the 1,600 and 10:22.64 in the 3,200.

Girls track

Audrianna Morgan, Douglass

Morgan is already rounding into form as she tries to add to the five state meet gold medals she already has. At Piedmont last week, the Trojan senior won the 100 meters in 12.88 and the 200 in 26.88.
