High school athletes of the week: Edmond North's Derek White, Mustang's Samantha Jones honored

Derek White was dominant last week, going 5-0 and claiming the 195-pound title at the Geary Tournament. Samantha Jones won two individual events and swam on two second-place relay teams at Tulsa Washington's Hornet Invitational last Friday.

Wrestling

Derek White, Edmond North

The senior was dominant last week, going 5-0 and claiming the 195-pound title at the Geary Tournament. Of his wins at Geary, one came by pin, two by technical fall, and one by major decision. The performance earned him Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. The Nebraska signee is currently 19-0 this season and ranked No. 5 in the country at 195 by InterMat Wrestling.

Swimming

Samantha Jones, Mustang

Jones won two individual events and swam on two second-place relay teams at Tulsa Washington's Hornet Invitational last Friday. Jones won the 50 freestyle in 29.40 and the 100 freestyle in 1:06.99. She was also on the Broncos' 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. The Mustang girls finished second behind Fort Gibson.
