High school basketball: Douglass boys pull away to beat Southeast

Douglass, No. 2 in Class 4A, got 25 points from Stephen Clark, who did most of his work at the free-throw line to help the Trojans pull away in the second half.

Southeast jumped to an early lead, but Douglass fought back to lead 39-37 at halftime. But a quick 8-0 run to start the second half gave the Trojans enough cushion to hold on.

DeAngelo Smith had 19 points, Glen Banks had 16 and Trevon Threatt added 14 for Douglass. The Trojans' other starter, Deondre Clark, scored nine, as the starting lineup accounted for all 83 points.

Southeast, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A, was led by Rashawn Thomas with 21 points, while Deshawn McDowell scored 12 before suffering what appeared to be a serious injury.

With three minutes left in the game, McDowell drove into the lane and did not appear to draw any significant contact, but stumbled to the floor beneath the basket. He was kept immobile as he laid on the court for nearly 20 minutes awaiting an ambulance, and was loaded onto a stretcher with a neck brace. The severity of his injury was not known Tuesday night.

BOMBERS RESPOND TO STAY UNDEFEATED

Midwest City hasn't been pushed much this season.

But for the second consecutive game, the Class 6A No. 1 Bombers found themselves with their backs against the wall.

And again, Midwest City responded.

The Bombers pulled off a big run stretching nearly eight minutes of the second half to seize control and beat No. 18 Norman North 54-37 on the road Tuesday.

“We didn't panic,” Midwest City coach Dewayne Bradley said. “What I'm really happy about is we had to take time off the clock because of foul trouble and we still found ways to score.”
