Piedmont was dominant for two of the first three quarters Tuesday night against Bethany. The other two quarters, though, nearly derailed the Wildcats' chances.

Piedmont regained control just in time, though, closing strong to pull out a 68-58 girls basketball win.

Piedmont led by nine after one before Bethany outscored the Wildcats 16-5 in the second to take the lead.

Piedmont regained control in the third, building a nine-point lead, but Bethany cut the less to two before the Wildcats closed with a 9-1 run to end the game.

"We made a lot of mental mistakes,” Piedmont coach Amanda Tims said. "We've definitely got to work on breaking those habits.”

Kayden Carver came off the bench to score 19 points for the Wildcats. Kristin Hager had 18.

Grace Hadley scored 34 to lead Bethany, one game after scoring a career-best 36 late last week.

BOND LIFTS ST. MARY IN OT

Mount St. Mary's Kaely Bond was perfect from the free-throw line in overtime, hitting all eight of her shots to lift the Rockets to a 62-57 win over Heritage Hall.

Heritage Hall was close to pulling off a big comeback, leading 49-47 in the closing seconds after trailing by seven going into the fourth quarter. But Jordan Braun hit a jumper with 25 seconds left to force overtime.

Bond led St. Mary with 21 points. Braun added 14.

Erika Wakefield led Heritage Hall with 29, 22 after halftime.
