With a daughter almost finished with college, and a son going in, Rick Harris decided it was time to step away from coaching and watch his kids play.

The Putnam City North boys basketball coach informed the school that he would step down from his position, though he plans to stay at the school and continue coaching boys golf.

“My daughter is playing softball in South Carolina and my son is going to be playing basketball in Missouri,” Harris said. “I want to be able to see them play ball.

“It was a tough call, but it was the right thing for me to do.”

Harris had been the Panthers’ head coach since 2008.

The boys basketball vacancy makes for the fourth coaching change in a prominent sport at PC North this school year. The school had to fill its football coaching position, and now has openings in baseball, and boys and girls basketball.
