Senior guard Ronnie Boyce made a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to give third-ranked Putnam City a 65-62 win at No. 10 Edmond North Tuesday night.
The 30-footer was Boyce's fifth 3-pointer of the night, and Putnam City's 11th on just 18 attempts. Boyce finished with a game-high 27 points, and Richmarr Smith added 15 as the Pirates improved to 14-1.
Carlbe Ervin led Edmond North with 19 points, as all five Edmond North scorers reached double-figures.
SANTA FE HOLDS OFF MUSTANG
Edmond Santa Fe used strong defense in the second quarter to build a big lead at Mustang, then spent the second half trying to hold onto it.
Santa Fe's lead peaked at 19 in the third quarter, and 12th-ranked Mustang cut it to 61-58 in the closing minutes. But the 11th-ranked Wolves held on for a 72-66 win.
“Even when we got up big, we knew they were gonna keep coming at us,” first-year Edmond Santa Fe coach Lenny Hatchett said. “The second quarter was the difference. If we didn't have the second quarter we had, we may lose the basketball game. We did a heck of a job on the defensive end.”
Behind a barrage of 3-pointers, Santa Fe outscored the Broncos 22-6 in the second quarter for a 38-21 halftime lead.
Sophomore Curran Scott made four 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 18 points, while Dashon Bell added 15.
Mustang sophomore Terrell Williams had a game-high 22 points, hitting four 3s, and Jakolby Long added 18 points.
EL RENO UPSETS CARL ALBERT
Justin Harris made eight 3-pointers, and El Reno needed every one of them.
