Northeast girls survive scare
T'ona Edwards came up huge in the final moments, hitting the go-ahead basket with five seconds left, then coming up with a steal to clinch a state tournament berth for Class 2A No. 1 Northeast with a 50-49 win over Tonkawa.
The Vikings (27-0) trailed by five with just over a minute remaining before the strong close kept their undefeated season alive.
Tonkawa dominated most of the night, jumping out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and built the lead to as big as 18 points midway through the third.
Northeast is in the state tournament for the third consecutive season.
Dale's Clark tops 1,500
Breck Clark has made Dale go all season.
She kept at it Friday night, moving past the 1,500 career points mark in a 54-51 win over Fairview to send the Lady Pirates to the Class 2A state tournament.
Clark, who came in needing just two points to reach the milestone, scored 19.
“That's a big deal for us and it's a big deal for this team,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said.
Lexes Satterwhite added 12 points for Dale to help send the Lady Pirates to their first state tournament since winning the title in 2010.
Olivia Mason scored 21 to lead Fairview.
“These girls have really worked hard,” Forsythe said. “We earned it tonight. Fairview's a great team and the defending champions and they made us work for it.”
