High school basketball roundup: PC West hangs on to beat Norman North

by Scott Wright Published: February 22, 2013

Putnam City West boys basketball coach Lenny Bert could tell some of his players, particularly the seniors, were feeling some pressure in a win-or-go-home game against Norman North on Friday night at Putnam City.

But the younger players stepped to the forefront to lead the Patriots to a 67-64 win.

“Now we're promised next week,” Bert said of the Class 6A playoffs, which move to double-elimination after the first round. “Our young guys really came through.

“I've never had this much fun coaching a group of kids, because they don't back down.”

Sophomore Tyson Jolly caught fire in the second quarter and finished with 20 points, along with some clutch rebounds. Tavion Moore added 11 points, and Omega Harris had 10.

Harris made a 3-pointer on PC West's first possession, and the Patriots never trailed from that point. He scored eight in the first quarter.

PC West will face host Putnam City in the regional final at 8 p.m. Saturday. Putnam City advanced with a 76-45 win over Yukon behind 26 points from Ronnie Boyce.

David Montgomery scored 21 points, and Carlbe Ervin had 18 as Edmond North defeated Norman 68-56, setting up an Edlam regional final Saturday night.

The Huskies will face host Edmond Memorial, which knocked off Choctaw 89-52 behind 18 points from Shaquille Morris and 16 from Jordan Woodard.
