EDMOND — Normally, it's the explosive offense for Edmond Santa Fe that gets all the ink, and the Wolves rolled up some gaudy numbers again Friday night in their 55-6 rout of rival Edmond Memorial at Wantland Stadium.

Quarterback Justice Hansen accounted for six touchdowns, but the Wolves' defense also shined, holding Memorial's sophomore running back Warren Wand to less than 100 yards rushing for the first time this season.

“We got a lot of green hats on him tonight,” Santa Fe coach Lance Manning said.

Santa Fe clinched the District 6A-4 title with Friday night's win, and if the Wolves can continue to play defense like they did against Memorial, they could be a force in the playoffs.

“I saw this coming against Lawton,” said Santa Fe coach Lance Manning, whose defense was considered the weak link of the team earlier this season. “Those guys (on defense) take pride. They weren't happy giving up the points we were.

“It was just a matter of time with the new scheme and putting it together and getting the right fits to where we are not giving up big plays. That's going to be the key to our success in the postseason, is how well we are playing defensively. The last three weeks we have really improved.”

Wand, who has been a big playmaker for Memorial in the Bulldogs' recent success, was bottled up all night. He did not have a run longer than eight yards against the Wolves and finished the game with only 47 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Santa Fe safety Khari Harding said the Wolves were determined not to let Wand get loose.
