MUSTANG — Justin Marchà remembers his game-winning kick in a scrimmage before this season.

The Edmond Memorial senior kicker nailed a 52-yarder against Del City as time expired, sending the team into a small frenzy. That, however, did not officially count.

Thursday's kick did count and in a big way.

Marchà easily made a 24-yard field goal in double overtime to complete a wild finish and lift the Bulldogs 24-21 over District 6A-4 rival Mustang at Bronco Stadium.

“It feels great to actually do one in a game and actually put one in the books,” he said. “A scrimmage is a scrimmage; it doesn't really count, but having it in a game it really means a lot.”

The Bulldogs (4-2 overall, 2-1 district) have now won two straight games for the first time all season and are in a good position midway through district play for a playoff position.

It just took a few defensive stands after squandering a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Both teams scored with relative ease in the first overtime, but Memorial senior defensive back Ben Moore came up with a big fumble recovery on the Broncos' first play in double overtime to set up the game-winning kick.

Moore also intercepted Mustang quarterback Frankie Edwards with just more than two minutes remaining to help force overtime.

“They're very, very good on offense,” Memorial coach Justin Merideth said. “(Edwards) is very, very athletic and a very good playmaker. He really put us in a bind and did a great job.
