Del City comes through in the clutch to drop Bombers to 0-3 on the season

What Midwest City lacked in offensive statistics, it made up for in big plays and a little luck. Bomber KeSean Brown started Friday night's roller coaster with an 87-yard kickoff return. Cornell Neal added a 56-yard kickoff return to set up Kameron Martin's 16-yard TD. Midwest City's Trevonne Rucker stripped the ball from return man Davion Freeman on the next play, returning it 41 yards for a score. Add three goal-line stands, and that was a recipe for staying in the game without an effective offense.

“It would have been heart breaking if we would have lost that game after the way we played,” McBride said. “But we put it in the hands of our defense and trusted them, and they came through for us.”

Del City will enter Class 5A district play on Thursday at Lawton MacArthur with a 1-2 record. Midwest City, which started the season No. 6 in The Oklahoman's Class 6A ratings, fell to 0-3. The Bombers will host Norman North next Friday at Rose Field in Midwest City.
