MIDWEST CITY – Tre'jon Sherffield found himself as Midwest City's main workhorse, Brandon Bell found the ball at the end and the Bombers found themselves another victory.

Bell grabbed a fumble recovery at midfield on a late-game Stillwater punt return for Midwest City. That allowed the Bombers to melt away the final 1:08 off the clock and secure a 28-22 win Friday night at Rose Field.

Sherffield stepped in for injured teammate Kameron Martin to rush for a team-high 83 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for Midwest City.

“Happy to have the win,” Midwest City coach Darrell Hall said. “Great to be 2-0. By no means have we blown anyone out. We find a way to win, find a way to get the job done and have no quit.”

Midwest City took a 28-6 lead with 10:20 left in the third quarter after Justin Cooper recovered a Stillwater fumble on the kickoff to open the second half. That led to Roscoe Gatewood's 11-yard touchdown run, and KeSean Brown added a 2-point conversion run.

Stillwater (0-2) heated up on offense, though. The Pioneers generated 159 yards and 11 first downs in the second half, outgaining Midwest City 290-191 overall.

Stillwater's Cameron Mayberry bulled 2 yards into the end zone to answer Gatewood's touchdown, cutting the Pioneer's deficit to 28-13 at the 7:19 mark of the third. Then Midwest City's Brendan Brown kicked the ball through the end zone for a safety on a punt try after the snap sailed high over his head. Midwest City led 28-15 with 4:41 showing in the third.
