MIDWEST CITY — Despite the cast protecting Cody Chancellor’s broken left hand, Bishop McGuinness’ top receiver didn’t have any trouble catching the football.

But the Carl Albert secondary had all kinds of trouble catching Chancellor.

The 6-foot-3, 165-pound senior turned in what McGuinness coach Justin Jones called the greatest receiving performance he’s ever seen — 359 yards and four touchdowns on six receptions. His last catch, a 68-yarder, set up the game-clinching touchdown in fourth-ranked McGuinness’ 42-32 win at Carl Albert Friday night.

“It was the (best) single-best performance I’ve ever seen from a receiver, and I played in college with a guy who was an All-American,” Jones said. “I keep telling people, Cody goes to work. He does what it takes. He makes the big play.

“The theme for the week was big-time games are won by big-time players who make big plays, and Cody’s big-time.”

“I actually practiced with a bigger cast on, so it would be easier to catch the ball once I got this one on,” he said. “We weren’t sure how well I’d be able to catch it, but it didn’t really bother me.

“Once you get playing, you don’t really feel it.”
