Sure, it was just a preseason scrimmage. But the emotion — both during the game and in the trophy celebration — told you it meant a little more. It always does when Douglass and Millwood meet.
Millwood, thanks to a dazzling touchdown run by Cameron Batson and a late interception by Alfonzo McMillian, sealed up a 7-0 win at Douglass in the finals of the All-City Preview Friday night.
“These seniors have never won the All-City, so that meant a whole lot to get it for them,” first-year Millwood coach Darwin Franklin said. “But we said they could celebrate for 24 hours, then it's time to get ready for Star Spencer next week.”
DEER CREEK RUNNING BACK HEALTHY
Deer Creek running back Alec James missed early practices this season due to a bruised knee.
No pain seemed evident when he amassed a large amount of yards after contact during both the quick fire and drive-to-score portions of the Top of the World Football Classic in Norman.
James' speed and footwork added almost four yards every time he was touched by a defender.
KNIGHTS' MCGEE GROWING INTO QB ROLE
Northwest Classen coach Lloyd Smith has seen continued improvement from junior quarterback Eric McGee throughout the preseason.
“He had a real good scrimmage last week against Capitol Hill and Star Spencer and again here this week,” Smith said. “He's been doing a good job of managing the offense. He's not trying to be too fancy. He goes through the proper progressions and makes good decisions.
