During school Thursday before Edmond Santa Fe's game against Southmoore, Wolves center John Wynn suffered a seizure and was unable to play in Santa Fe's 53-37 win.
“It's not something he's ever had before,” Santa Fe coach Lance Manning said. “He's fine. They think it was just exhaustion.”
Wynn's absence had Santa Fe shuffling its offensive line, moving Anthony Robinson from right guard to center and Colin Bodenski moved into the lineup in Robinson's spot.
“They had to put it together real, real quick,” Santa Fe running back Cameron Westbrook said. “But they did a good job for us.”
YUKON GETS MUCH-NEEDED WIN
With an 0-3 record against a very challenging nondistrict schedule in the rearview mirror, Yukon was excited to turn its focus to the games that count with Friday's district opener against Lawton Eisenhower, a 59-7 win.
The Millers showed the offensive firepower that has made them a playoff team the last three years, with quarterback Hayden Somerville completing 28 of 33 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns.
He found senior wideout Codey Sanchez 12 times for 186 yards and three scores.
“We had a tough nondistrict schedule and we felt we should've won a couple of those games,” Sanchez said. “We've been talking about how district wins are what get you to the playoffs. We're trying to get there and we think we can do it. This was a good game to start district and I think it gave us some momentum.”
The Millers face a couple of tough road tests next, with games at Norman North and Edmond North in the next two weeks.
Chandler wins shootout over Bethany
After opening 0-2, Chandler has evened its record after defeating Bethany, 33-28, on Friday night in the district opener.
“Every district win is a key district win, but I think this one is going to get us going in the right direction,” Chandler coach Scott Myers said.
“Last week's win (over Harrah) was huge going into district, getting that first win. Bethany, being a traditional quarterfinalist, semifinalist over the last couple of years and a strong football team, that ups the momentum that much more.”
Heath Gray had another 100-yard plus performance at running back, while quarterback Hunter Hudson tossed three touchdown passes.
