DEL CITY — Stanvon Taylor did just about everything he could for Tulsa East Central on Friday night against Del City.
Taylor, the Oklahoma commit who's the No. 2 player on The Oklahoman's Super 30 list of the state's top football recruits, helped the Cardinals with his hands, his arm and his feet as East Central beat Del City 53-31 at Robert Kalsu Stadium.
Taylor had 183 yards and two touchdowns receiving, threw for another score and had four punts, including a 65-yarder as East Central came out with the win.
“I'm glad to have him on my side, I'll tell you that,” East Central coach Bobby Klinck said. “He's a heck of a young man who had a heck of a game.”
Taylor said East Central wore down as the game went on, allowing Del City to drive on them late.
“It was just exhaustion in the second half,” Taylor said. “That's something that's going to get better each week.”
Taylor also helped East Central slow down Del City receiver Corey Lawrence, although Lawrence did have a couple of long touchdown catches.
Lawrence finished with 143 yards on four catches.
“They did a lot of things differently than what they showed on film,” Klinck said. “They made some adjustments, but we came back and answered.”
But Del City clearly showed it was a better team than last year's edition, when it went 1-9 in Class 6A.
