Three cheers
Jeremy Harris of Star Spencer was named Army Iron Man of the Week for Sept. 19. Harris was honored by the Army Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion for the best performance by a two-way player. The senior quarterback/defensive back threw a 19-yard touchdown pass, ran for a 56-yard TD, returned a kick 87 yards for a touchdown and intercepted a pass in the Bobcats' 26-20 victory over Douglass.
Thursday night, Harris was again outstanding. He ran for 161 yards and four touchdowns in Star Spencer's district-opening win over McLoud.
A strong candidate for the Army's two-way-player award for next week might be Oklahoma Christian School's Jeff Smith. Friday night, he ran for 216 yards and four touchdowns, blocked an extra point, intercepted a pass and totaled 11 tackles in the Saints' 41-29 win over Watonga.

All-around
•Cayden Cochran, Cashion: Fresh off being named The Oklahoman's Player of the Week, Cochran topped his previous outings with a five-touchdown performance in Cashion's 33-7 win over Luther. He passed for 346 yards, 294 of them in the first half, and two touchdowns while running for three scores.
•Javon Harris, Lawton MacArthur: Harris didn't have many opportunities, but he made them count. He rushed for 108 yards on six attempts with a touchdown and had three receptions for 120 yards with a score in a 57-0 shutout of Western Heights.
•Cody Goss, Maud: Goss did it on both sides of the ball. He had 116 yards on 20 carries with three touchdowns to go with two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, in the Tigers' 34-20 victory over Webbers Falls.
•Brock Wardlaw, Okeene: Totaled 110 yards and three touchdowns. He had a TD receiving and scored on a punt return and an interception in Okeene's 49-0 win over Texhoma.
•Jeff Smith, OCS: Coming off a tough loss to Christian Heritage last week, the Saints got back in the "W” column behind Smith. He rushed for 216 yards and four touchdowns, but that was only half his night. He also blocked an extra point, had an interception and made 11 tackles.
Edmond North Huskies get first victory
Edmond North lost to Yukon last week on a last-second field goal, but the Huskies made sure it didn't come down to that again.
Running back Joe Aska rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown as the Huskies North beat Lawton Eisenhower, 31-10.
"Our offensive line played really well. Joe did a good job of making yards after contact,” coach Jeremy Dombek said. "I'd say he and our offensive line had a breakout game.
"It couldn't have come soon enough. We had a bad taste in our mouths the last few weeks. Santa Fe and Yukon are good teams, but it was a tough one losing on a last-second field goal. We struggled to refocus, but we showed them there was a light at the end of the tunnel.”
It was an all-around solid effort by North, forcing seven turnovers in their first victory of the season.
No nerves for Kingfisher's Patterson
Kingfisher running back Brayden Hicks tore his ACL last week, forcing Garrett Payne to move from quarterback to running back and thrusting sophomore Derek Patterson into the spotlight at QB. The result? Not too bad. Patterson threw for 211 yards and four touchdowns as the Yellowjackets pounded St. Mary, 54-0.
It didn't take long for Patterson to find his favorite target as senior wide receiver Timmy Winans caught five passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns — all in the first half.
Class 2A's fourth-ranked Yellowjackets will see if Patterson can still bring the magic next week when they play No. 1 Heritage Hall.
Lions roar past Saints
After losing each of its first three games by fewer than seven points, Blanchard left no questions Friday in a 41-0 victory at Santa Fe South.
It wasn't one or two people who had a big game — it was the entire team.
Running back Garrett Davis had 11 carries for 180 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Bryce Rusler added 144 yards through the air with two touchdowns and added another on the ground. Junior safety Blaine Brooks had three interceptions for Blanchard.
Blanchard had 516 total yards compared with 126 for Santa Fe South.
Should have been there
Broken Bow running back Mitchell Manning did whatever the Savages needed and did it whenever they needed it most.
Manning scored three touchdowns, including two in the overtime periods, as Class 4A's second-ranked Broken Bow won a thrilling 28-27 double-overtime game against Sallisaw.
After Sallisaw's Matt Mitchell scored his second touchdown to make it 27-21, Broken Bow's Francisco Silva blocked the extra point. Manning scored from 10 yards out and Trey Lee converted the extra point for the win.
"I can't say enough about Mitchell,” Broken Bow coach Greg Werner said. "He just came up big every time. He's a special kid.”
Sallisaw, ranked sixth, got a huge game from Matt Oberste, who rushed for 191 yards and threw for a touchdown.
