High school football roundup: Deer Creek remains unbeaten with rout of Guymon
Edmond Memorial wins its first game of the season; Del City wins in Altus; and Bishop McGuinness blanks Western Heights
Deer Creek had a 56-point lead by the end of the first quarter Friday night and coasted to an 83-6 victory over Guymon in a District 5A-2 football game in Edmond.
Caden Sanders had No. 3-ranked Deer Creek's first-two touchdowns, returning punts 34 and 40 yards. The Antlers (6-0 overall, 3-0 district) went on to total 450 yards of offense. Jared Rayburn caught four passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Joel Blumenthal was 5 for 5 for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
Deer Creek's defense was dominant, too. Guymon (0-6, 0-3) had 138 yards passing, but the Tigers had minus-45 yards on 32 rushing attempts.
MEMORIAL STUNS MUSTANG
Edmond Memorial won its first game of the season Friday night, hammering Mustang 41-13 in a District 6A-4 game at Wantland Stadium. Warren Wand ran for touchdowns of 15, 2 and 52 yards for Edmond Memorial (1-5 overall, 1-2 district). Quarterback Tyler Holcomb ran for a TD and passed for another. Mustang, which won its three nondistrict games, has lost three straight. The Broncos fell to 3-3 and 0-3.
DEL CITY WHIPS ALTUS
Quarterback Jon McBride accounted for five touchdowns as Class 5A's No. 8-ranked Del City thumped Altus, 48-0. Del City (4-2 overall, 3-0 District 5A-1) pounded the Bulldogs' defense for 492 total yards. Altus (1-5, 1-2) had 69 total yards.
JACKETS ROLL JOHN MARSHALL
Top-ranked Kingfisher overwhelmed visiting John Marshall 63-0 in a District 3A-3 game. Landon Nault finished with 156 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries. He also returned a punt for a TD as the Yellowjackets improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in district. Wide receiver Jake Blair added three catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Jon Avila had nine point-after-touchdown kicks.
