High school notebook: Carl Albert tennis team shuffles deck

It's tournament week for Oklahoma high school soccer teams in the state.

In the Oklahoma City area, tournament action begins Thursday with the Bronco Cup in Mustang, the Bomber Cup in Midwest City and Southmoore's Big Cat Classic.

Up the road in Stillwater, the annual Stillwater Cup begins Friday, and a highlight will be a first-round matchup between Edmond Santa Fe, currently ranked No. 2 in Class 6A boys, and Santa Fe South, currently ranked No. 3 in 4A boys, according to

The Bronco Cup also will feature some of the best teams in the Oklahoma City area, including Norman and Edmond North, currently ranked third and fourth in Class 6A boys by

Also in the boys bracket will be Mustang, Bixby, Guymon, Westmoore, Putnam City North and Bartlesville.

The girls' side of the Bronco Cup includes No. 2 Edmond Memorial and No. 7 Mustang. Edmond Memorial, Carl Albert and Yukon are replacing Edmond North, Norman and Guymon in the girls' bracket.

The Bronco Cup will be played on both the football and soccer fields at Mustang High School through Saturday.

Also on Thursday night, Southmoore's Big Cat Classic opens at Moore Stadium.

The boys' tournament includes Yukon, Carl Albert, Putnam City, Norman North's junior varsity, Southmoore and Choctaw. Norman North's varsity team, the defending state and national champ, is going to a tournament in Alabama next week.

Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association rules only allow high school teams to play in one tournament during the season. The Big Cat Classic concludes Friday.

The Bomber Classic at Rose Field will include boys teams from Midwest City, Southeast, Heritage Hall, Star Spencer, Harding, U.S. Grant and Muskogee.

On the girls' side, Edmond North's junior varsity, Tulsa Union's junior varsity and Catoosa will compete.

In addition to Edmond Santa Fe and Santa Fe South in the Stillwater Cup, the boys' field will include Verdigris, Enid, Heritage, Ark., Ponca City, Catoosa and Stillwater.

Coweta and Owasso will replace Enid and Heritage, Ark., in the girls' bracket.

The Stillwater Cup will be played Friday and Saturday on three fields in Stillwater: the OSU soccer complex, Pioneer Stadium at Stillwater High School and the junior high school stadium.
