High school notebook: Dale pitcher Evan Anderson commits to Ole Miss

Wednesday, Anderson made his college decision, committing to Ole Miss.

“It's the SEC, the coaches were really cool and the campus was really nice,” Anderson said of picking the Rebels over Nebraska.

The tall left-handed pitcher is the second state player to commit to Ole Miss, joining Edmond Santa Fe pitcher Ty Hensley, a senior, who signed with the Rebels in November.

CARL ALBERT'S JACKSON TO VISIT STETSON

Carl Albert defensive back Trez Jackson is being presented with a unique opportunity.

The senior is heading to Florida on Thursday for an official recruiting visit to Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.

The football program at Stetson was disbanded in 1956, and the school announced the return of the sport early in 2011.

Jackson will be among the first official visitors in the recruiting efforts of new coach Roger Hughes, formerly the head coach at Princeton. The Stetson football team will not begin play until the fall of 2013.

STATE PLAYERS PARTICIPATE IN ALL-AMERICA TOURNEY

Eleven baseball players from around the state traveled to Tucson, Ariz., last weekend to participate in the Under Armour Preseason All-America Tournament.

Two players each from Deer Creek, Edmond Santa Fe and Yukon were named to the rosters.

Greg Bruno of Midwest City and Gage Parker from Yukon were the state seniors selected. They were joined by juniors Dawson Floyd of Muldrow and Cody Ziegler of Broken Arrow.

Six sophomores were picked: Garrett Benge of Yukon, Harrison Cornforth of Stillwater, Caleb Eldridge and Patton Collie of Deer Creek, Luke Reynolds of Edmond North and Quin Walbergh of Edmond Santa Fe.

Edmond Santa Fe's Zackery Bycko was one of only six freshmen nationally to compete in the event.

Six of the players — Benge, Bycko, Patton, Eldridge, Reynolds and Walbergh play together during the summer on the Oklahoma Fuel 17-under traveling team.

The 20-team wooden bat tournament featuring some of the top players from around the country is used in part to evaluate players for the annual Under Armour All-America Game, which was held at Wrigley Field last year.
