High school notebook: Deer Creek's Dillon Noble stays perfect

“I don't want to jinx him or anything but he's been great for us,” Deer Creek coach Grant Gower said. “The thing that's made him so good is his consistency. He keeps the same stroke through the ball on every kick.”

Noble, a junior, has made all 20 of his PAT attempts and all four of his field-goal tries. One his second field-goal attempt Friday, he pushed the ball just wide, but a Carl Albert penalty gave him another shot, which he hit.

Gower also credited the Antlers' kicking coach, former Oklahoma State kicker Cary Blanchard.

EDMOND NORTH'S ERVIN CLEARED

Basketball player Carlbe Ervin has been cleared by the OSSAA to play at Edmond North this year after moving there from Carl Albert in the summer.

First-year Edmond North coach Steven Goss, who congratulated Ervin for receiving OSSAA clearance on Twitter Tuesday, will have a solid foundation to start his tenure.

In addition to Ervin, Goss will have a pair of fourth-year starters in Ed Baker and Tyler Sanders, and two others with starting experience, Austin Usery and David Montgomery.

Ervin — who goes by the first name of Corlby, which closer reflects the pronunciation of his legal name, Carlbe — was a key player in getting Carl Albert to the state tournament the last two years. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 15.4 points per game as a junior to lead the Titans.

Baker, who will be playing for his fourth head coach in four seasons at Edmond North, averaged 12.0 points per game as a junior.
