CORNWELL, MILLER EARN HONORS
David Cornwell, who spent last season at Jones but enrolled at Norman North last week, was named to the U.S. Army All-Combine team by Rivals.com following the combine in San Antonio earlier this month.
“There were few who were so clearly tops at their position as Cornwell,” the site said in selecting Cornwell as the top quarterback of the event. “His footwork is very precise and his drops were especially impressive for a quarterback who plays out of the shotgun in his high school offense.”
The only other state player named on the teams was Bixby offensive lineman Chandler Miller, who was named as an honorable mention.
Cornwell was also named as one of the top 25 recruits for the 2014 class by Randy Taylor, the director of football for National Collegiate Scouting Association Athletic Recruiting.
EDMOND NORTH TOPPLES TOP-RANKED BROKEN ARROW
Edmond North could be the new No. 1 team in 6A wrestling this week after the Huskies beat top-ranked Broken Arrow in the Jerry Billings Invitational over the weekend.
The Huskies entered the Sapulpa tournament ranked second in 6A but championships by their triplets — Andrew (220), Joel (195), and Lance Dixon (182) — boosted Edmond North to the title.
Edmond North finished second to Broken Arrow the previous weekend in the Geary Invitational, the only other time the schools have met this season.
The Huskies compete in “Three Dog Night” Monday at Edmond Memorial in Edlam wrestling. Edmond North, Edmond Memorial and Edmond Santa Fe each will face the other in duals beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The Huskies are looking for their 12th consecutive victory in “Three Dog Night.”
