Edmond North's Jared Benway suffered a major leg injury in the team's scrimmage Saturday.

Benway was expected to be the team's feature back and played a key role in the Huskies' running game last year as a sophomore.

"We have to do it now (adapt). We have to be creative," coach Jeremy Dombek said. "It's no secret that Jared was our horse, but he's just a junior. He'll be back."

Dombek said the injury is not related to the high ankle sprain Benway had during the spring and summer but would not comment any further on it except to say Benway will be out indefinitely.

The Huskies will get their first chance to adapt to the situation Friday night with a scrimmage vs. Moore at Edmond North.

PC North's Holman out 3-5 weeks after knee surgery

Putnam City North junior running back Dre Holman could miss the first couple games of the season after suffering a partially torn meniscus on the first day of football practice last week.

Holman underwent surgery to repair the knee Monday morning.

The Panthers were preparing for a season with two standout running backs in Holman and senior Sam Wolfe.

The position was ravaged by injury last season as well, with Holman missing the first three games of the year with a high ankle sprain suffered in the first days of practice. In the second game of the season, Wolfe broke his collarbone and missed the rest of the year.

After returning from last season's ankle injury, Holman rushed for 942 yards and seven touchdowns.

Lawton's Cooper out, Bowles back

Lawton coach Randy Breeze said he was pleased with the first week of practice, but the Wolverines did lose a key piece to the puzzle.
