Edmond Santa Fe guard Tamara Lee is hard at work this week taking part in the four-day tryout for the Team USA under-16 national basketball team in Colorado Springs.
Lee is one of two Oklahoma girls among the 121 participating in the tryout, which began Thursday. Jenks' Jessica Washington is also participating.
The 12 players selected for the national team will compete at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women in Merida, Mexico, from June 13-18. The championships serve as a qualifier for next summer's FIBA U17 World Championships, which will be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The team selections will be named on Monday morning, followed by the first team practice at 9:30 a.m. The players selected will return to Colorado Springs for training camp June 3-13.
WARD ADDS TWO MORE OFFERS
The offers keep rolling in for Lawton defensive end D.J. Ward. A day after picking up an offer from Oklahoma, Ward added Oklahoma State and Oregon State to his list Friday.
Ward, who will be a junior in the fall, is considered the top in-state prospect for the class of 2013.
Ward received an offer from Texas Tech on Tuesday and has eight total.
BRONCOS BUILDING AROUND TAYLOR
Competition for jobs has begun in Mustang, where several key positions in the Broncos' powerful passing attack have come open.
Five different players had at least 379 receiving yards last season and all five were seniors. But at the heart of the offense remains quarterback Brandon Taylor.
The senior-to-be threw for 3,304 yards with 36 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions in 11 games last season.
Taylor, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, has shown he is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the state since taking over the starting job in the middle of his sophomore year.
Programs like Oregon State and Kansas State have begun to show interest, joining schools like Missouri and Tulsa, which have been in the recruiting mix for the strong-armed Taylor.
Players like Derek Garvin and Dakota Warrington will be among those in the running to catch passes from Taylor in the fall. Garvin played as a sophomore but was out last year because of injury. Warrington began to make an impact last year as a sophomore.
