High school notebook: Fall during 3A title game kills grandmother of Cascia Hall football player

Charlotte Mayfield, 66, fell backward down a set of stadium steps and hit her head during the first quarter of Cascia Hall's 35-18 loss to Anadarko.

Mayfield suffered severe head trauma and was taken by ambulance to Stillwater Medical Center. She was later flown to Tulsa's St. Francis Hospital, where she died the next day.

Hart is a standout defensive lineman and fullback for the Commandos. He sustained a knee injury in the first quarter but returned to record 14 tackles.

Coach Joe Medina said Hart wasn't told of his grandmother's condition until after the game.

“This accident puts the game into perspective,” Medina told the World. “It just goes to show you how precious life is, and you've just got to enjoy every moment you have with your loved ones.”

Mayfield's memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Harvard Avenue Baptist Church.

BUNDAGE STILL HEADED TO ARIZONA

Douglass lineman Cayman Bundage still had some reservations about his verbal commitment to Arizona, but a trip to the campus and a meeting with new coach Rich Rodriguez gave him all the information he needed to reaffirm his decision to stick with the Wildcats.

“You can tell he's a good coach from his record,” Bundage said. “Then when I met him, he's a people person. We bonded real well, and that was a plus. I think he's gonna be good. We're gonna have a productive season, I can tell.”

Bundage committed to Arizona in the summer and remained committed after Mike Stoops was let go in October. But Bundage was looking at other options until his trip to Tucson last weekend.

“There were some questions I had, and I got them answered,” said Bundage, a 6-foot-2, 275-pound interior lineman. “The O-line coach (Robert Anae) stayed on the staff, so I'll still be playing for the same line coach.”
