With its fourth straight win coming Thursday at Northeast, Dibble is gaining confidence in its first season in Class 2A.
But coach J.R. Conrad knows it will get a lot tougher this week, with a trip to Christian Heritage.
“This will be our toughest game to date,” he said. “They're a good club, so we know we'll have our hands full.”
Thursday's 48-15 win over Northeast improved the Demons to 2-0 in district play, and they're gaining confidence with every win.
“We've got kids that work really hard,” Conrad said. “The belief is there. They were a part of the success last year and they're finding that this group can have success, too. They're seeing who their leaders are and who they can lean on, and they're finding some confidence along the way.”
Bethany draws unbeaten Elgin to open state
As if getting through a tough regional tournament to earn their state berth wasn't enough, eighth-ranked Bethany will open the 4A state volleyball tournament against undefeated and top-ranked Elgin Friday at Chickasha.
Kerri Cagle's Bronchos fought through a tightly contested match with ninth-ranked Mount St. Mary to clinch its state berth, taking the match 25-17, 17-25, 26-24, 22-25, 15-12.
At 26-8, Bethany will face 30-0 Elgin in the final match of the opening round Friday.
First-round action begins with Cache, which has reached the state finals the last two years and won it all in 2010, taking on Weatherford at noon. Copan vs. Okay and Oklahoma Union vs. Verdigris will follow.
The semifinals and finals will be held Saturday at Chickasha.
East Central may have to forfeit
Class 5A No. 2 Tulsa East Central may have to forfeit its Sept. 21 win over Tulsa Central for using an ineligible player.
Tulsa Public Schools will make the determination of whether the Cardinals will have to forfeit the game, which East Central won 33-12, Monday morning.
The situation was first reported by the Tulsa World.
The determination will be made by TPS and not the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association because the game involved two TPS schools and is a district eligibility matter.
