Southmoore quarterback Kendal Thompson, Millwood cornerback/wide receiver Josh Turner and Edmond Memorial quarterback/wide receiver Kameron Doolittle are among seven Oklahoma athletes who have been nominated to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl next January. Also nominated were Duncan defensive back Dominique Petties, Duncan offensive lineman Dylan Dismuke, Sallisaw offensive lineman Garrett Gladd and Tulsa Washington running back Isaac Bennett.

Of the 400-plus nominations, 90 will be selected to play in the game, which will be Jan. 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Last year, Tulsa Washington’s Calvin Barnett, who eventually signed with Arkansas, was the state’s lone representative in the game.

John Marshall’s Jackson out for state
John Marshall sprinter Miles Jackson, who had turned in one of the top times in the class in both the 100 and 200, will not run in this weekend’s Class 4A state meet.

Jackson suffered a quadriceps injury in the Douglass meet last month.

While Jackson’s injury hurts the Bears’ quest for a state team title, coach Marvin Dantzler said his team was still in good shape.

"We couldn’t replace him in the 100 or 200, but we’ve had some kids step up in other events,” Dantzler said. "We had two kids qualified in both hurdles events, and (Keyair) Bolden did a good job filling in in the 4X100 relay.”

Cyclones earn championship
It didn’t feel good for Casady’s baseball team to lose 8-1 on senior night last week against Heritage Hall, but it may have been just what the Cyclones needed.

Casady responded by outscoring its three opponents in the Southwest Prep Conference Championships 24-2 and earning the Division II title.

The Cyclones faced Tulsa Holland Hall in the championship and run-ruled their rival 11-1.
