Kingfisher’s seniors were only sophomores when the Yellowjackets made the Class 3A football final two years ago against Clinton.

Clinton rallied in the fourth quarter to win the state championship. Now it’s being used as motivation for this year’s team.

"We want to get that bad taste out of our mouths,” senior running back Jacob York said. "We were so close and don’t want to waste another opportunity like that.”

Kingfisher (12-2) plays Lincoln Christian in the 2A state championship game Saturday afternoon at Boone Pickens Stadium.

OLDS, RIDEAU TO PLAY, HALL TO COACH IN ALL-STAR GAME
Last week, Darrell Hall coached Star Spencer to its first-ever state football championship, while Terence Olds and Darwin Rideau had a big role in bringing the gold ball to the Class 4A school.

Hall will get a chance to coach Rideau and Olds again, as they’ll all travel to Fort Worth for the annual Max Emfinger All-American Bowl Game Classic on Jan. 9.

Sequoyah-Tahlequah lineman Chris Littlehead, an Oklahoma State commit, is expected to participate in the game.

OSU oral commitments Deion Imade and Gerron Anthony, both from Texas, are expected to play.

OU commit Rashod Favors was selected for the game but will not play due to injury.

WOODS SIGNS WITH WYOMING
Tuttle wrestler Shane Woods has signed a letter of intent with Wyoming. Woods (215 pounds) won the Class 4A state championship at his weight last season, helping Tuttle to the team championship.

"I have tremendous respect for coach (Mark) Branch, and his credentials say a lot,” Woods said.
