Most teams have completed their regular seasons now, but there are still a few stragglers out there in Class 5A and 6A who will be on the court tonight.
Among them, Yukon hosts Putnam City North and Del City hosts Edmond Memorial.
The latter pairing includes four top-10 teams. Del City's boys and girls are each ranked No. 7, while the Memorial girls are No. 3 and Memorial boys are No. 1.
Playoffs for the top two classes begin with regional tournaments Thursday for girls and Friday for boys.
PC WEST ENDURES ‘LEARNING EXPERIENCE'
The Putnam City West boys have been overachievers this season, climbing into the top 10 when no one expected to hear much out of them.
A week ago, the No. 9 Patriots were 11-5 after a six-game winning streak and ready to head into the playoffs with some momentum. But the snow postponements left them with a brutal final week of the season that resulted in four losses.
First-year coach Lenny Bert called it a “learning experience” for his young team with only two players who saw significant varsity action last season. More importantly, the Pats hung tough against the best teams the Metro Conference had to offer, except for a tough loss to No. 17 Putnam City.
Seniors Kyndall Dudley and Dante Lewis, along with junior point guard Kevin House, have been the heart of the team, but the recent improved play of 6-foot-4 swingman Tavionne Pennon has provided a big boost.
