High school notebook: McGuinness defense prepping for Guthrie

Irish remain in contention for District 5A-2 championship. But they will have to earn it by playing No. 1-ranked Guthrie on Friday and No. 4 Deer Creek on Nov. 2.

EDMOND NORTH, NORMAN NORTH STRONG AT TOP

Edmond North's Jaci Smith and Jenny Mehner finished second and third Saturday as the Huskies captured the Class 6A regional cross country championship in Tulsa, nipping Jenks by one point.

Norman North's Abbey Mace, Isabella Rose and Rachel Chrisman finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, to lead the Timberwolves to the other 6A girls regional title in Norman.

Shawnee's girls won the Class 5A regional in Norman while Lexi Bingham of Piedmont was the individual champ.

MOUNT ST. MARY COMING OFF REGIONAL DOUBLE

Mount St. Mary is heading into the cross country state meet having won both the boys and girls championships in the Class 4A regional at Norman last week.

The St. Mary girls squad edged Heritage Hall by three points for the team title. Lauren Roberts of Heritage Hall nipped Audrey Campbell of Mount St. Mary for the individual crown.

The St. Mary boys had five runners in the top 20. The individual champ was Carl Schlosser of Cache.
