High school notebook: Mustang teams strong at Southmoore tennis tournament

Mustang nearly pulled off a sweep of the team titles at the Southmoore tennis tournament Thursday at Oklahoma City Tennis Center. But the Broncos had to settle for a first-place tie with Ponca City in boys action, despite reaching every finals match in singles and doubles.

Mustang nearly pulled off a sweep of the team titles at the Southmoore tennis tournament Thursday at Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

But the Broncos had to settle for a first-place tie with Ponca City in boys action, despite reaching every finals match in singles and doubles.

The Mustang girls won behind a pair of individual championships. Kyndal Heath won at No. 2 singles, while Taylor Underwood and Heather Sullivan came out on top in No. 2 doubles.

Southmoore’s Jordan Henry improved to 21-1 on the season with her championship at No. 1 singles. The Moore duo of Taylor Factor and Patricia Truong won No. 1 doubles.

Ponca City’s Blake and Daniel Langston swept Nos. 1 and 2 singles in boys action, while Mustang picked up the No. 2 doubles title with Tommy Ngo and Adam Nguyen. Westmoore’s Beau Lanier and Josh Noel won No. 1 doubles.

NEMECEK, PURCELL WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

Purcell sophomore golfer Ashton Nemecek picked up her third consecutive tournament victory, shooting an 80 earlier this week to win a Class 3A regional qualifier at Purcell.
