Tecumseh's Thornton hired as Norman basketball coach

Matt Thornton's basketball coaching career is taking a trip along State Highway 9.

The Tecumseh boys coach was hired by Norman this week, filling the void created when Jeff McCullough left after two years to return to Texas.

Thornton has been a head coach for five seasons at Tecumseh, reaching the state semifinals in 2011.

Thornton is originally from Moore. He worked as an assistant coach at Westmoore before becoming a head coach.

Norman North picks Paul as new AD

In addition to the hire of Thornton, Norman Public Schools officials approved the hire of former Bethel football coach Eddie Paul as Norman North's new site athletic director.

He will replace Jack Harvey, who has retired.

Paul is a longtime coach in Oklahoma and Texas, spending the last two seasons at Bethel.
