High school notebook: West dominates in football championships
West finishes with 7-1 record in state title games, the only blemish coming in 6A, where Jenks wins again
While much is made about the East's dominance in Class 6A — or, more specifically, the dominance of Jenks and Tulsa Union — the West had its best overall year in nearly 20 years.

Outside of Jenks winning in 6A, the other seven state champions came from the West side of the state. Only Jenks and Tulsa East Central (5A) made the championship game from the East side.
That's the best overall performance by the West since 1995, the last time a West team won class 6A.
That season, the West swept the title games with Midwest City (6A), John Marshall (5A), Ada (4A), Frederick (3A), Davis (2A), Turpin (A), Snyder (B) and Central Marlow (C) winning titles.
KELLEY STANDOUT WINS VOLLEYBALL AWARD
Tulsa Bishop Kelley's Claire Kelley might be focused on a future in soccer, but she can play volleyball, too.
The Arkansas soccer signee was named Oklahoma's Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year on Wednesday.
Kelley, a 5-foot-8 senior setter, guided the Comets to a 32-4 record and the Class 6A championship, while earning tournament MVP. She also was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honorable mention.
The state title was the second straight for the Comets in Class 6A and the sixth consecutive for the school overall.
