The Yukon baseball team may be peaking at the right time with the playoffs around the corner.
The Millers won all four games in the Deer Creek/Yukon Classic over the weekend, earning the tournament title for their 10th win in the last 12 games.
Yukon (23-5) ended the tournament with a 9-4 victory over Westmoore behind the bat of Garrett Benge, who homered and doubled. Logan Wigley also threw the complete game, allowing three earned runs and striking out eight.
Yukon also beat Red Oak, ranked No. 1 in Class B, 8-3 on Friday. The Millers defeated both Edmond North (1-0) and Guthrie (4-2) on Thursday.
Guthrie finished second, going 3-1 in the tournament and beating Norman North 9-8 in eight innings on Saturday.
WESTMOORE’S TRIPP FULLER HEADED TO OC
Westmoore’s new all-time leading scorer is heading to Oklahoma Christian to continue his basketball career.
Tripp Fuller, who is Westmoore’s first 1,000-point scorer, signed with OC last week.
An Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State selection, Fuller averaged 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds as a senior. He concluded his career with 1,216 points.
CENTENNIAL’S AUSTIN GARNER SIGNS WITH REDLANDS
Austin Garner, a first-team selection on The Oklahoman’s Little All-City team, has signed a letter of intent with Redlands Community College in El Reno.
A four-year starter at Centennial, Garner averaged 14.5 points and 8.2 rebounds as a senior, leading the Bison to a state runner-up finish. He started for championship teams in 2011 and 2012, and Centennial reached the semifinals in his junior year.
CACHE’S ANGE HEADS TO WAGONER
Cache boys basketball coach Zach Ange has been hired for the same position at Wagoner, the Lawton Constitution reports.
Ange led the Bulldogs to the regional tournament, where they finished with a 12-10 record, last season.
