A strong Edmond Memorial running game might finally have all of its parts for Friday’s Edlam battle with Edmond North.

CASHION CONTROLS DESTINY
After back-to-back grueling wins against Watonga and Oklahoma Christian School, it would be natural for Cashion to suffer an emotional letdown.
Coach Lynn Shackelford is hoping, that if Cashion wins Friday at Wellston, the Wildcats will clinch the district championship and keep the players focused.
"Each game is its own challenge, and the kids have done a great job in preparing themselves,” Shackelford said. "District championships are special, but we still have some work to do.”
Cashion won 12-10 against OCS, and Shackelford said the key was the team’s defensive effort and a great crowd.
"This was one of the largest crowds we’ve had at Cashion. It made for a real special environment,” Shackelford said.
CASADY LOOKING FOR STRONG FINISH
After a surprising 7-0 start, Casady has dropped its last two games, but coach Koby Scoville said it hasn’t been for lack of effort.
"The kids have shown a lot of character in battling back,” Scoville said. "We’ve missed a few opportunities on offense to score early.”
Scoville said the team knew its final three games (Houston St. Johns, Houston Episcopal and Tulsa Holland Hall) were going to be the three toughest.
Quarterback Cale Shivers threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Episcopal on Friday.
BLUNDELL, KINGFISHER DEFENSE ROLL
Kingfisher routed Perry 55-0 Friday, and linebacker Rhett Blundell played no small part in the shutout, recording 21 tackles. There were plenty of opportunities for tackles with Perry running the Wing-T. This year’s Kingfisher defense has held up the tradition of stingy play, and Blundell cites that as a big reason for his successful game.
"Our secondary played well, and our line played so well,” Blundell said. "Those guys helped me have those tackles by knowing their jobs so well and being right where they’re supposed to be. They don’t have to be told twice to do anything.”
ST. MARY IMPROVING
It hasn’t been the easiest of football seasons for Mount St. Mary, but there have been encouraging signs.
Friday night, the Rockets beat Fairview 35-21 for their second victory after going winless a season ago.
Quarterback Dalton Newsome had a big night, rushing for 108 yards, throwing for 169 and racking up 65 return yards. He finished with 342 all-purpose yards.
Aaron Smith benefited from most of Newsome’s passing numbers with 132 yards receiving.
Mikey Mollman had nearly 100 yards rushing and added 15 tackles on defense.
St. Mary plays at Newkirk on Friday.
