High School football notebook: Lawton pulls out thrilling win

Just another day in District 6A-1. Lawton quarterback Cody Miller scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds left to propel Lawton to a 34-33 win against visiting Putnam North.

Lawton pulls out thrilling win

"That was just a great high school football game,” coach Randy Breeze said. "Cody ran the ball well, and it was another roller coaster game.”

Lawton had a 20-7 lead after the first quarter, but PC North scored 26 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a 33-20 lead.

Each team had 19 first downs, and Lawton had 366 total yards (183 rushing, 183 passing) while the Panthers had 359 total yards (186 rushing, 173 passing).

Miller ran for three touchdowns and threw for two scores for Lawton (7-2, 4-2).

DESTINY CHRISTIAN RUNS WILD

Destiny Christian quarterback Kyle Lynch threw for 263 yards and six touchdowns as the Wildcats put up 658 total yards of offense in a 64-46 victory against Corn Bible.

Lynch’s favorite target was Ryan Maynord. The receiver had eight receptions for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

"We took advantage of some opportunities. We’re real proud of the effort,” assistant coach John Morstad said.

The running game is also clicking for Destiny as Tevin Middleton followed a 303-yard performance last week with 270 yards and two touchdowns.

Destiny Christian begins play in the Christian schools playoffs, taking on Rejoice Christian in one game while Community Christian plays Southwest Christian. Both games are Friday and will be at CCS.

=EVERHEART DAZZLES

El Reno senior quarterback Jakeil Everheart accounted for the team’s first five touchdowns in a 59-15 win over Northwest.

Everheart threw for two scores, ran for two more and added a 69-yard punt return to keep the Indians undefeated (9-0, 6-0).

El Reno hosts Duncan on Friday. The winner will be the District 5A-1 champion as Duncan is also 6-0 in district. The Demons’ only loss was at Carl Albert.

I wasn't at the game, but heard that the officials were extra bad. That doesn't excuse bad behavior, but a badly called game takes away playoff hopes which could very well be the case for the panthers. Sometimes a parent of a senior, who knows there is no next time, can get a little testy.

PC North exhibited the worst sportsmanship I've ever observed at a high school football game! Parents especially! I can give examples but if you were there, you know.
