Deer Creek banged up
Injuries are a part of the game, and Deer Creek coach Grant Gower knows that. But in his 26 years of coaching high school football, his team has never been hit with more injuries than this season. But the Antlers (4-5 overall, 3-3 district) are still in the hunt for a playoff spot.
"It’s a testament to the players and to the staff,” Gower said. "It’s not that the confidence has gone away, but it’s reaching a point where you’re not sure who can play.”
Starting running back Colten Sander is already out for the season. In last week’s loss to Altus, quarterback Alex Christensen broke his hand, replacement Tyson Wade broke his collarbone and running back Tyler Price tore ligaments in his thumb.
Gower said he plans to play Hunter Dinkines at quarterback for Friday’s game at Lawton MacArthur (6-3, 4-2).
Bethany QB quits team
Bethany will have a new quarterback this week when it closes out the regular season Friday night against Pauls Valley. Silas Day began the season as the starter but quit the team on Monday. When contacted by the Oklahoman Tuesday, Day said he didn’t want to comment on his decision.
"It’s a long story,” Day said.
Ryley Claborn will replace Day. Claborn is 16-of-36 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown in limited action.
